Teachers & Staff
All of our teachers are native Spanish speakers and the overwhelming majority of them has at least 10 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language. Our teachers regularly attend training seminars and short courses in order to improve their teaching methods and grammatical knowledge of Spanish. Every Vida Verde Spanish School teacher is also certified to prepare students for the DELE exam. Collectively, our teachers have instructed hundreds of students in the Spanish language using the one-to-one method, which has proven to be the most rapid and effective way to learn Spanish.
Edith Ochoa
Education: Specialization in Spanish as a second language. Catholic University. Quito, Ecuador. Certified DELE instructor. Certificate IE Spanish Grammar advanced level. Professional school in computer science. Intermediate Certificate English SENDIA.
Edith is one of our online teachers and has over eight years of professional experience. She enjoys meeting and interacting with people from all over the world and is interested in different cultures. She speaks English and in her spare time she travels throughout Ecuador, enjoys reading and likes to go out dancing.
Hipatia Alarcón
Education: University Degree in Education, with a Specialization in Grammar & Literature; Universidad Central del Ecuador; certified DELE-instructor.
Hipatia has 22 years of experience teaching Spanish to both foreigners and Ecuadorians at university level. She enjoys spending time with her two children, dancing Salsa and Merengue and loves cooking.
Elena Corral
Education: BA in Education from University of Loja and MA in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language from the University Catolica of Quito; certified DELE-instructor.
Elena joined the team in 2001. She has worked for a variety of Spanish schools in Quito: She left the South American Academy for the Academia Quito in 1993 then started to teach U.S. Embassy personnel for Vida Verde Spanish School in 2001. For years she has attended workshops and seminars in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language, computer science and English.
She reads widely and enjoys all cultural activities.
Martha Vaca
Education: Bachelor in Education, with a Specialization in Phys. Ed.
Martha has been teaching Spanish as a second language for 20 years. She is a DELE certified instructor and has attended to various seminaries and workshops in didactics, computer science, English, Teaching English as a Second Language and Spanish grammar. She has taught Spanish to US Embassy personnel and to their children.
She likes to keep in touch with friends all over the world and also to travel in Ecuador.
Patricia Ochoa
Education: University Degree in Education - Specialization in Spanish as a second language from the University Católica, Quito. She also took some semesters of Business Administration (Auditing) at University. She is a certified DELE instructor.
Patty has 15 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language in various Spanish schools in Quito. She most enjoys spending time with her family, taking her three children swimming, or to the parks, museums, ... and she likes reading.
Administration
Rosa Proaño
Rosa is the Administrative Director and a co-founder of the Vida Verde Spanish School. She has worked in the administration and management of Spanish language schools for over 20 years. Rosa takes care of everything and knows everyone! She loves to visit her home town in the countryside on the weekends where she can enjoy fresh tropical fruits, crystal-clear streams and the clean air.
Patricia Calderón
Education: Masters Degree in Castellano (Spanish Language) and Literature; Universidad Central del Ecuador; certified DELE-instructor.
Patricia has over 20 years of experience teaching intensive Spanish to foreigners. She is our Academic Director and as such responsible for developing and maintaining our intensive language program. She also provides our online classes, especially to advanced students. She has conducted numerous training workshops and seminars on teaching Spanish as a second language.
Sandra Kuehni
Sandra Kuehni
Sandra from Switzerland is the Student Coordinator at Vida Verde and the "information bridge" between administration, teachers, and students at the school. She organizes and runs school activities, attends to registrations and inquiries, helps with marketing and publicity and maintains the Vida Verde website, Facebook page and blog. After work, she likes to do sports but also enjoys meeting new people, going out and watching movies with friends.
